International Dinosaur Illustration Competition
The International Dinosaur Illustration Competition (CIID) aims to encourage the creation of illustrations of high scientific and artistic value, in the field of paleontology.
Scientific rigor and quality of technique are the main selection criteria for works, with preference also being given to Portuguese species. Although the name of the competition contains the word dinosaurs, the regulations allow the illustrations to be about any extinct animal.
Held for the first time in 2000/2001, it has been expanding. In all 8 editions, 503 works were submitted to the competition, created by 201 artists from 36 countries, from all continents. Of these, 66 were awarded, from 40 artists from 17 countries.
